Hello, lovely ladies, how are doing today? Is it raining, yeah? In my home town it's raining, too. But that never stopped me from getting ready for the joys of Spring. I put together a colorful living room, following a few simple steps:
1. Keep it airy. Gather as many light surfaces as you can. Put a white cover on the couch! Switch your art with pastel paintings or photos! Fortunate enough to work with white walls and creme leather seating, I just made sure that my gallery wall features some items in light colors.
2. Ground it. Choose a little contrast for the floors. This way, the all-white-furniture in the room won't look like it is floating on a space base. I used my beautiful traditional rug with a powerful geometric pattern.
3. Add colorful accents. There are no rules here, the light background allows you to throw in anything small and colorful that you already have at home. I just dragged in some colorful pillows, the gay lamp and the hyacinth bulbs in ceramic cups :)
Good news, everyone! My colorful living room has been featured at Becolorful, Simply Designing, Him And Her, Sugar And Dots, Craftionary, One Project Closer, What-About Co, Five Days... Five Ways, The Gingerbread Blog, Dreamsicle Sisters, That DIY Show Off and Tidy Mom. Thank you so much for the support, lovely ladies!
You know how much I love your blog and I wouldn't miss this post for anything! Your living room is so bright, fun and inviting! Love all the illustrations you've framed. I've filed some colored illustrations myself for future use and among them is the one with the little girl and the balloons you've also hang! Ha! Brain storming? Need you to tell me where you got that cute black cat!
ReplyDeleteI made the black cat myself, I drew the contour and cut it from black cardboard :)
Deleteeverything looks so different now! great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ana! It looks a little different maybe because I added the big matching armchair, which was previously in the bedroom :)
Deleteyou made the cat? that is so great! i love it. and i also love that rug. the colors are just so beautiful and so very you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christine, you know how to make a girl smile!

DeleteLove, love, love!!! <3 I want your red pillow! :D
ReplyDeleteI was never really into rugs, but after you said that it grounds airy looking spaces, it makes so much sense! I now have a whole different view - they really are the basis of the design. I really ought to go get some rugs :)
ReplyDeleteI lived a long time rug-less, too! But the rug is very important in the living room, because this room has white floors - hence the floating illusion... It is not such a big problem in rooms with dark floors :)
DeleteI'm just drooling over your beautiful living room, art, photography skills! Wow, beautiful! The tips, Great! Thanks.
