The first snow has covered my city and all the trees have got white branches. But inside on the zen balcony there is a small winter garden with many beautiful flowers. Don't get me wrong, I love ALL flowers and I can't help but be amazed by their natural perfect imperfection. And yes, I do have a weakness for yellow flowers... That being said, mums have a special place in my heart, perhaps because they cheer us up especially in the "grey" season. And that smell....aaaah!
I went a little overboard at the market place and bought not one pot, but three of them :)) They were cheap from the farmers and oh so pretty... My first instinct was to buy all the mum pots in the same color. Which color? Well... purple, of course! In the end, I just bought three different flower colors: white, yellow and purple mums for a visual delight. But the purple ones were still my favorite so you can spot them here and here.
Speaking of purple flowers, here you can spy one last petunia hidden between the sago palm leaves. Also, this wonderful purple bell flower - I never knew its name, perhaps someone can help me with that, please :) And far away in the foreground I've got a fake shamrock and a blood-leaf both with purple leaves ;) Enough rambling, Meeha, better get back to the bursting colors of the mums!
As I am being constantly restless with my home decor, little changes can be seen on the small balcony, as well. For example, one of the DIY pink coffee tables came to live here - and it goes so well with the purple flowers from across the lane! In the little storage area there are a bunch of unused flower pots and some boxes with extra stuff I don't normally use. In a small home, every square inch of storage matters!
Beautiful! I love mums too. They are so colorful!

Thank you so much for visiting, Katie! The colorful mums won't last all winter long, but at least I've got the pictures to look at :)
DeleteYou've got beatiful balcony. It is closed during winter, open in summer, great in any season! So sunny. And it looks really calming. Just the right place for morning coffee or tea.
ReplyDeleteActually these are the last days for coffee on the balcony, in the middle of the winter it gets too cold but still beautiful to look at...

ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning colorful balcony, I love it! (I deleted my previous comment because of a grammar error!)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura! So you don't tolerate grammar errors - I love you even more!!! I feel the same way about honoring the beauty of the language, my friends call me "The Grammar Natzi" and tease me all the time, but I am proud of my love for grammar :))))
DeleteMille baci!
so beautiful! I love mums, the colours are so vibrant and gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, after all choosing three different colors made everything more cheerful!
Deletei love your balcony! how nice is it to have a sun porch, i think i would like that very much : ) It's just lovely with all your flowers!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Christine, the balcony is very small, but it's so much better than no balcony at all :))
DeleteA cosy and beautiful balcony! Pretty mums! At first I thought you were visting your mum, but after a while I understood that mums were flowers! :D
ReplyDeleteThe Americans have a short name for everything - they don't say "Chrysanthemums" they just say "mums" and so I wrote the same :)
DeleteSo much pretty! Your place doesn't look like winter at all!
ReplyDeleteThanks a million, Yelle, I am amazed myself of how the balcony looks not winter-y at all. Too bad I don't have a heater in there, in which case I could have a tropical garden in the middle of the blizzard. But maybe someday...
DeleteI love this balcony! It's like a winter-garden!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the lovely words, Serena, when there is snow outside it truly looks like a little garden inside :)
DeleteBellissimo!!
ReplyDeleteThey look gorgeous! And I always love the little sneak peeks you show of your beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Meream, the balcony looks cheerful but I don't know if the flowers will last for much longer....
DeleteOh, I love your balcony! I would love to just sit there and unwind. I love mums and have several different colors in my yard. I never knew they would come up every year but they do! And I live in a very cold part of the U.S. Of course, they're in the ground, so maybe that makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting, Cynthia, it's a pleasure to have you here on my little balcony. You are absolutely right, if the mums are in a pot they die in mid winter, but if they are in the ground, no matter how cold it is, you'll have them back the following Fall :)
DeleteI appreciate your idea here. Definitely it has a good content. Thank you for imparting more of your own thoughts. Good job!

Really nice but it sure doesn't look like winter to me! I am from snow country!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deb
Deb, thanks so much for visiting! It has been snowing here for the last 14 days non-stop, but my little balcony is completely enclosed and that's why the mums survive the cold.
