Bedroom morning light

8 AM and the first thing I see is my purple plum wall in the bedroom. The morning light dances on the wall, caressing the delicate flowers of my pink azalea. Slowly, the ray of light moves to the right, leaving the little red Ikea lamp in a cone of shadow in glorious jewel tones.

The azalea will not survive the last hot days of May, so I may as well enjoy in while I can. Sunbathe, my lovely, and spread your beauty into the room quietly, without asking anything in return. Your splendor is vivid in my heart.

  2. Morning light is so pretty! I miss it terribly- we don't get light in our apartment until 9:30am (which is earlier than it was a month ago) because of the tall buildings around us. And that azelea is BEAUTIFUL. SO many flowers!! Did you buy it like that or have you had it for many years? Any tips for getting it to bloom so plentifully? I've never seen a real azelea before, but I sure am interested in getting one now!

    1. Gen, I bought the azalea and it's been blooming for the last three weeks. It is a high maintenance plant though (I've had one in 2010 which died quickly). Azaleas usually have plenty of buds if you add a little liquid fertilizer every 7 days when they show the first buds. When a flower withers, pinch it away quickly, otherwise it can get infected.
She is very picky about water - you need to keep the soil moist at all times, but careful because too much water will kill the plant. Also, keep away from direct sunshine and from temperatures above 65F (19C).
We have an azalea festival each year in the botanical garden, so I made my research thoroughly.
