Halloween Gallery Wall

Friends, this is the reason why I took all the art down this week. I was in the mood for a dramatic change: a gallery wall with a Halloween theme. Now it is finally done and I get the feeling that I live in a completely different house. Every time I walk into the living room, the bold art strikes me in the face. It's like living on a film set (and what's to complain about that?)

To tell you the truth, I just wanted to have a black pear on my wall. You know me, why pay for something when you can do it (almost) for free? So I payed a visit to my favorite supply store, where I found a sturdy black cardboard that stole my heart with its matte finish and soft texture. I came home and I traced the outline of the pear, cut it with the Exacto and framed it the next morning. So far so good, only that my beautiful pear didn't go with any of the thin-lined art from the Fall transition living room.

"Well, I'll just have to change the rest of the art" was the first thought that came to my mind. As the spooky Halloween approaches, the theme came to my mind naturally. Good thing that the pear was already black: it's quite appropriate for Halloween! I just went out and bought some more of the same textured black cardboard, just enough to replace all the other pictures in the room. This way, I only payed like 4 bucks :)

Since the pear was such a statement piece, I decided that the new gallery wall would not only be black and white, but that I would keep making big silhouettes for a very graphic effect. Halloween offers plenty of stuff to choose from and these were my choices: the spooked black cat with its hair all raised up on the back and on the tail (as a cat owner myself, this was just as fun to make as the pear), the spider web, the witch's broom and a very, very sad and lonely floating ghost.

I added a letter sign, made from the same supply, plus my beloved ugly ceramic mask that you first saw in the Mad Hatter Home Office. In order to complete the black-and-white color scheme, I matched the little cream leather couch with a black Ikea shag rug and a dark leather pouf from my trip to Marrakesh. It was just... too colorless, so I immediately added a few orange touches (the Tam Tam stool, the vintage lamp and the pumpkin, of course!) for a traditional Halloween color scheme. BOO!

  1. OMG this is so funny! I will be honest to you, I don't like halloween so much but I love this idea to change the art wall with respect of the season or festivity! I love the graphic effect of the black and white silhouettes! What I love the most? I'm sure.. the pear!
It could be the black cat but I have a real one so.. the pear! ;)
    Have a nice weekend Meeha!
