Phew! Now Christmas can finally come to my place! Like any girl, I get frustrated when my "laboratory"- as my mum calls it (aka the kitchen) - gets the last in line for the season's decorations. Not that I'm spending too much time cooking, but I do spend a lot of time by the kitchen sink (preparing coffee and tea, doing the dishes after a little get together with friends and trying not to taste anything fattening from the fridge).
My way is the easiest way: play with color! This Christmas is very traditional, since I've dressed the kitchen shelves in red and white. My BF is the happiest about the color palette, because he is one passionate FC Liverpool fan and these are the colors of his favorite football club. So it turns out that I've just completed a Liverpool kitchen :))
Speaking of color, I've also incorporated a little blue, in order to soften up the red and white palette. Actually, the soap dispenser (pictured above right) has been blue since 2007, so I didn't have much choice. Oh well, if you can't fight it, embrace it! And I'm glad that the blue in the wooden stool, the Ikea glasses and the penguin egg cup remind me of the snow!
My BF bought me the poinsettia, which I put in a red flower pot. We call this plant "the Christmas star" and it lives happily on the kitchen counter. And when I say "happily" it is because the cats don't eat its leaves - what a relief!
The old red and white mugs have been in the house for years... They are my favorite, no matter what the season. On average I drink my coffee in the morning in a polka-dot cup, five out of seven days! (and on the other days I take my coffee mug striped, thank you very much!)
Beautiful colors. Your kitchen looks so light and airy! Very lovely!
ReplyDeleteHappy December,

Vesna
Thank you so much, Vesna! Now I feel good about Christmas, finally :)
Deletei love your mugs and your polka dot routine! i used to only use these two mugs that were clay looking but now i have all white mugs so everyday is a bright white cup :)
ReplyDeleteWell, in the spring time I had a crush on two identical yellow mugs, so I completely support your bright cup routine!
Deletethis looks so festive! i love that you decorate your kitchen, mine is lucky if i pull out my old santa hand towel that i got one christmas when i first moved away from home. other than that it remains the same. and i love you coffee cup ritual. everyone in my house knows to stay away from my coffee cup - i have one that i use every single day (and one for back-up just in case), but for some reason the morning just feels better when i drink my coffee out of that one cup. xo
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the little rituals like a favorite coffee cup! It makes you feel safe in the warmth of your home, in a way that cannot be described with words, only felt (in the quiet of the mornings)
Deleteaww so very cute!! I love all the different mugs and pretty dishes. So sweet!

ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks beautiful! Have a Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour combination of red and white, which would never make me think of any football team! Just a note from one cat lover to an other: there's a poison of some kind in poinsettias, so cats better not eat the leaves!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're ready for Christmas! It all looks lovely and lively with your bright colors!
ReplyDeleteLovely kitchen! A fresh mix of colors, very nice to all the white. Sweet mugs and funnet with the figures wite the cone and herbs. :)
